The Earth Futures Festival is actively seeking video submissions on the topic of geoscience within the themes Dynamic Earth, Earth Futures and Human Connection.

Entrant Categories.

Media Professionals.

Media production companies and media professionals.

Professional geoscientists.

Academic, industry and government professionals including early career professionals and researchers working in the broad area of geoscience.

University and vocational course students.

Undergraduate and postgraduate (honours, masters, doctorate) university students and students undertaking vocational qualifications in related subjects, for example, arts, media, communication, indigenous studies, earth and environmental science, ocean science and atmospheric science.

Primary school and high school students.

Primary school and high school students and presenters and producers 18 years of age and under.

Indigenous and First Nations.

Indigenous and First Nations knowledge holders and organisations. The video may also be entered into another category if applicable.

Women in geoscience.

Submissions to this category are open to Women only video and film making teams and individual female video and film makers. Videos can be of any topic relevant to the three festival themes. Videos submitted in this catergory may also be entered into another category if applicable.

Community.

Including but not limited to: geoscience-focused community groups, associations and organisations, earth and environmental science school teachers, citizen earth science contributors, geoscience enthusiasts, poets and dancers. Videos submitted in this catergory may also be entered into another category if applicable.

NOTE: For mixed teams, the category that fits the majority of the group will be your entrant category. Please note any professional assistance in making your video in the submission form.

Terms of entry.

 

The Earth Futures Festival is free to enter.

The full terms and conditions of entry are available in a pdf here and on the FilmFreeway Earth Futures Festival page. A summary of some key entry terms are:

Filmed or video-based format is acceptable.

Simply upload your work to YouTube as unlisted content (not publicly available), then send Earth Futures Festival the link with your submission via the FilmFreeway submission platform. Or upload to FilmFreeway directly.

Work between 90 seconds and 90 minutes is accepted (including titles and credits).

You’ll need to specify during submission which Theme you have focused on, and what entrant or award category you are entering as. For mixed teams, the category that fits the majority of the group will be your entrant category. If you are not a media professional, please note any professional help making your video.

The work should be subtitled in English if it features dialogue in a language other than English

You will need to have full copyright and releases for all people featured in your work, as well as for any music, locations and other work that you may have incorporated into the work, or appear in it.

    We only accept submissions to the festival through FilmFreeway

  • All submission categories close on 15 May 2022

  • The entry terms and conditions are available on the EFF Submission page and on FilmFreeway. You can also download a PDF here

  • Videos and film must be between 90 seconds to 90 minutes long including titles and credits. Films that lie outside this time will be deemed ineligible for entry.

  • The work should be subtitled in English if it features dialogue in a language other than English

  • You should enter into the category that fits the majority of your filmmaking team - for example a film made by high school students should enter the Primary and High School Category.

    You can submit to a second category if it also applies. For example, if you are a filmmaking team consisting of Indigenous geoscientists, you can enter in both the Indigenous/First Nations Category and the Professional Geoscientist Category.

  • Yes, the 2022 EFF event is accepting previously released video and film.

  • Great news, the 2022 EFF is free to enter

  • Yes but you’ll need a parent or guardian to fill out the submission form on your behalf.

  • Yes we just ask that you declare any video production assistance you have received in the submission form – there is a specific box to detail this.

  • No, not unless you have the rights to use it

  • No, All films are eligible, whether they have screened at other festivals or not.

  • Entrants will be notified on 24 August 2022 whether they have been selected as a finalist for EFF 2022.

  • No, our festivals do not pay for, cover or reimburse travel costs to our events.
